Late Night Shopping
& new ‘Uckfield at Christmas 2015’
‘Hot off the Press’
Sue talks to Mark Arno of Carvills in Uckfield about this year’s event.
Previously ‘Festive Fantasies’, now ‘Uckfield at Christmas 2015 and what an improvement! The new ‘team’ have created a lovely new magazine filled with all the activities of the new late night shopping event and weekend with a host of activities and a ‘What’s on Where’ guide:
and …
Also, the ‘Hunt The Elf’ competition is just for the youngsters:
The Christmas Shopping Event weekend, including Uckfield’s late night shopping, starts on Friday 4th December. Uckfield Fm will as usual provide centre stage, featuring children from 10 local schools, singing traditional and other Christmas songs.
Other acts confirmed so far include The Uckfield Singers, Spiritus and the UCTC choir, Uckfield Performance Ensemble, I Choir, singer Milly McCarron and Cool Hand Ukes. See the full schedule soon on www.uckfieldfm.co.uk
Performances will begin at 5.30pm.
The event always attracts hundreds of relatives, friends and families to the town and helps to support the shops and business in Uckfield as they gear up for the festive season.
This special programme is another increasingly popular yearly event which takes place at Holy Cross Church in Uckfield throughout the weekend, with 70 trees on display and over 5,000 visitors last year (2014).
When and How Did it Start?
Late night shopping started over 25 years ago and has always been driven by the Uckfield Chamber of Commerce. Festival Fantasies – the accompanying magazine compiled and managed by the Chamber’s Secretary Ian Blackaller – is sponsored by the generous support of local businesses, without which none of it would happen.
What’s New?
To ring the changes in 2015, the committee decided to make it a 2 day event, running on Friday evening through to Saturday, with many shops and organisations running their own events in the High Street, the timetable for which can be seen in the programme magazine coming out soon. Ask Mark Arno or James Anderson for details.
New events will include Jimmy The Juggler, Tressler balloon modelling, demonstrations from the fire brigade, rides for young children and the Circus School.
Team work
Late Night Shopping and Uckfield at Christmas 2015 magazine is a team effort and this year the committee has welcomed some new members, including James Anderson of Allsorts and Angela O’Neill, whose has been the main Editor and Producer of the magazine.
Let’s keep fingers crossed that we get good weather!

I’ll be there with the Uckfield Bonfire Society on one of the Food stands. I haven’t been to Late Night Shopping in years. The magazine is yet to drop through our door, but we wait in anticipation.
