Keep it Local – Christmas Gift Shopping in Uckfield
With Christmas looming do you still have some shopping to do?
Even though we often shop online and go to nearby towns to get what we want, we’re often not very successful. Every year we come back home to Uckfield and find what we want here right on our doorstep.
So I thought it worthwhile finding out what our local shops here in Uckfield have and I’d like to share with you what I’ve found, so you can keep it keep it local too.
Many of the shops below have really unusual gifts and many offer gift vouchers too, in case you really can’t make up your minds.
Here goes!:
Undoubtedly always the best dressed window in Uckfield, with a wide variety of gifts, including glassware, jewellery, bed linen, furniture, clocks, beautiful room scents and loads more, far too much to mention here. Go and visit and I’m sure you’ll spend ages looking and then add things to your own Xmas list, like I did!
We’ve passed Saffron and Sycamore many times in the car and on foot, but I’ve never been inside. Well I’m glad I had the opportunity to, it was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. What I found was a lovely mix of local crafts, decorations and jewellery. A real Aladdin’s cave with its own little ‘Santas Grotto’ at the back with ‘Santa’ keeping his eye on everything.
Our Halfords is the only shop in town – apart from the small selection in Tesco – for everything motoring, as well as adults and kids bikes, mountain bikes, tools, sat navs and lots of other gifts, including gifts for under a tenner.
Lansdowne is the latest new shop to open in Uckfield and I was very impressed with both the stock and the staff, who were very friendly. It sells a wide range of food items including teas, coffees, cereals, Gluten-free cakes, Gluten-free and coeliac sections (much larger than Tesco!), as well as supplements, spices, toiletries and eco-friendly laundry detergents, washing up products and even free range eggs, all locally sourced and ‘organic’ and ‘natural’.
The owner, Sam, explained about their gift baskets, which no other shop in town offers I believe. You can wander through the shop and choose whatever you wish and they will display it all in a beautifully wrapped gift basket for you. Lovely idea!
There’s lots to choose from in The Flower Shop. The normal bouquets are available of course, but there’s also a host of lovely gifts including plant or bulb baskets, Poinsettia plants and lots of decorative items.
Another very pretty shop window with lots more gifts inside.
Allsorts – certainly lives up to its name and is absolutely packed with gifts as well as Christmas decorations and wrapping paper etc. James is very good at stocking everything that’s in demand and will even order stuff for you, although probably not in time for Christmas now.
I have never been in Joli Couture before either and again I spent ages wondering around, looking. From its shop front you would think it’ small, but step inside and it’s like a tardis! I found a mixture of lovely clothes, jewellery and a wide range of gifts, all beautifully presented in a twingkling ‘Winter Wonderland’ setting. Their new selection of capes have been vey popular and I’ve certainly not seen them anywhere else in Uckfield.
Final Score Sports Shop
Although we do have cycle shops in Uckfield, this is the only shop that sells a variety of sports wear and products, including adults and kids football boots and equipment. Upstairs is dedicated to rugby. It’s very popular for stocking fillers up to about £15.
My Phone Fix, in Church Road, is full of gifts and stocking fillers such as covers and accessories for your phone and ipad. See more here.
Make It Yourself with Sew ‘n Sew
As many people like to give their own hand-made gifts, I am finishing off this list with Sew ‘n Sew in Bell Walk. There’s everything you could ever need for making hand-made gifts – what an amazing choice! Including wool (hard to find elsewhere), huge choice of ribbons and lace, buttons, patterns, material by the metre, I could go on! Well worth a visit.
That’s it folks! I hope you find what you want. Have a very Merry Christmas.
